Effingham Mayor Jeff Bloemker has proclaimed the current week of October 4th through 10th as 4-H Week. “4-H has been a key player in shaping and channeling young people from the Effingham community for generations. Most of the kids I knew who were in 4-H went on to be successful and productive citizens,” said Mayor Bloemker. “The 4-H motto is To Make the Best Better,” he continued. “The 4-H focus in on head, heart, hands, and health. Not sure how you can go wrong with those guiding principles. I applaud the local 4-H leaders and the kids who are involved.”
4-H work is an educational youth development program of the University of Illinois Extension and is supervised on the local level by the 4-H staff along with the help of local 4-H volunteers who are outstanding men and women in their communities. There are twenty 4-H clubs involved in Effingham County and City 4-H.
