Updates have been provided on recent deaths that were investigated by the Effingham County Coroner’s Office.
57-year-old Fresno, California resident Manohar Singh Gill was found deceased in his semi at the Pilot Truckstop in July. No foul play was suspected, and that has been confirmed with the final autopsy report. The autopsy found that Gill died from heat exhaustion inside the cab area of his semi.
The coroner’s office also investigated the death of an infant. On July 18 three-month-old Amelia Pierce was brought to the emergency room at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital after she was unresponsive at a motel in Newton. She was pronounced deceased later that night at the hospital. The autopsy found that accidental asphyxiation was the cause of death. Testimony from the investigation revealed that the Amelia Pierce was co-sleeping with both of her parents.
