The Effingham Unit 40 School Board has approved the budget for Fiscal Year 2016, which runs through the current school year. The budget is approved with revenue projected at $25,355,600 and expenditures projected at $26,227,465. Theses estimates leave a deficit of $871,865. It should be noted that school districts often have to amend their budgets over the course of the school year, and that the budget passed at this time is just a reflection of what is projected. As has been the case with other area districts, Unit 40 is having to operate with much less state funding than expected due to the lack of state budget.
The Board also heard a presentation on the Unit 40 Mentoring Program. The program provide mentoring services to over 120 students this year, helping them to develop their fullest potential.
The Board also approved the posting of District policy changes. The changes include amendments to the discipline policy, and will be implemented in September of next year.
