The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an attempted residential burglary in a rural area about one and a half miles south of Beecher City. The attempted burglary occurred at approximately 4:30pm Wednesday.
The Effingham County Sheriff’s office says the homeowner was in the basement of the residence when she heard a noise upstairs. Believing her husband had returned home she went upstairs and discovered a man coming out of the bedroom. The man was described as being in his twenties with dark hair. He was heavy-set and smoking a cigarette, and was wearing a camouflage hat and shorts.
As soon as the intruder saw the homeowner, he fled the residence and left in an older model car that is described as being dirty and white with a loud exhaust. It was later discovered the man gained entry to the residence by damaging the front door. The homeowner was not confronted or injured by the intruder.
The intentions of the intruder are unknown but the Sheriff’s Office believes he intended to burglarize the residence.
