The 22-year-old man accused of escaping from the Vandalia Correctional Center for about 16 hours last September made an appearance in Fayette County Court on Monday. Marcus Battice appeared for a hearing in which it was reported that Dr. Fred Klug has performed the fitness evaluation on Battice and additional hospital records have been submitted for review. A fitness hearing has now been set for November 2.
Pre-trial in the matter was set to take place on Monday, but was instead continued until October 20. Battice is charged with one count of escape from a penal institution by a felon after his alleged escape the afternoon of September 23, 2014. Battice was captured just about 3 ½ miles. Battice had just four months left before his parole date at the time of the escape.
