The Effingham Public Library Board held their first meeting since the opening of Effingham’s new library location. Among the items covered at the meeting was the review and approval of changes to the library board’s bylaws. The board voted in favor of the changes, which included eliminating the board position of vice president. Instead the board will operate with two co-presidents. The change will take effect with the next election. Another part of the bylaws that the board covered was the public participation policy. No action was taken, but having a similar system to the City Council with speaker’s cards was considered.
In other action, payment of $312,990 for construction of the new location was approved. Approximately $76,000 in payments remains.
It was also announced that on the first day the new library location was opened over 1300 items were checked out.
