A day ahead of National Blessings in a Backpack Day, the Effingham chapter held a special packing event at Total Quality Warehouse. The packing began just after 5:30pm, and at 6:11pm the goal of 800 bags had been packed. The packing was done by Blessings’ board members, Effingham Mayor Jeff Bloemker, and local business members, and school officials. Wednesday also marked the launch of Effingham’s Blessings in a Backpack website, www.effinghambackpack.org.
Blessings in a Backpack feeds over 400 kids in Effingham each week. Eligible student age three through 8th grade are sent home with bags of food provided by Blessings in a Backpack through the donations of local organizations, businesses, and residents. Nationally, over 75,000 students receive food through the organization. 100% of the money that is donated to Blessings in a Backpack goes towards purchasing food.
