Congressman John Shimkus, who represents the local 15th Congressional District, has announced his campaign team. The congressman announced last week his plans to run for reelection.
“I am pleased to announce a solid team of state senators to serve as my re-election co-chairs for 2016. These are senior leaders of our party,” Congressman John Shimkus (R, Illinois-15) stated. “I am honored that State Senator David Luechtefeld (R, Okawville) and former State Senators Frank Watson (R, Greenville) and Judy Myers (R, Danville) have agreed to support, provide advice, and be a part of the team leading my re-election campaign.”
Watson noted, “As a former leader of the Senate Republicans, I know the difficulties in conservative governing. John Shimkus is a leader among our state’s Congressional delegation and has assisted the state House and Senate Republican campaign organizations greatly. He provides a strong conservative voice for his constituents.”
Luechtefeld added, “I have observed John Shimkus since he was first elected to Congress, and I know that he listens to his constituents, but he will never stray from some basic core values. Political campaigns are also not always about the individual candidate, but the team of supporters often give a good indication about the person. I am pleased to join the many other state legislators who are also endorsing John.”
Myers said, “John Shimkus has shown himself to be available and accessible to his constituents in all the far reaches of the 15th District. John deserves re-election, and I ask the Republican primary voters to join us and re-elect John Shimkus.”
Shimkus commented, “I am humbled to serve and simply ask for continued support as I bring my version of conservative Midwestern values to Washington, DC.”
In addition to Luechtefeld, the members of the General Assembly that serve overlapping territory supporting Shimkus include State Senators Dale Righter, Chapin Rose, and Jason Barickman and State Representatives David Reis, John Cavaletto, Bill Mitchell, Chad Hays, Adam Brown, Charlie Meier, Tom Bennett, Reggie Phillips, and Terri Bryant.
