The Salem woman charged with first degree murder in the death of her 3-month old daughter wont go to trial until next year. 23-year-old Christina Thomason was in court earlier this week, where a judge vacated a September 21st trial date, rescheduling for January 19th. Pretrial hearings were also scheduled for December 8 and January 7.
The motion to delay the trial came from the defense. There was no objection to the delay. Public Defender Matt Chancey, who is representing Thomason, requested a change of venue for the trial due to the publicity the case has received. A decision on this request will be made at the December 8 hearing.
Thomason is charged in her daughters death after admitting to authorities during an interview that she couldn’t get her child to stop crying, so she covered the baby with multiple blankets, causing her to suffocate.
