A Greenup man is in custody on the charges of Child Pornography, Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, Obstruction of Justice, and Violating a Stalking No-Contact order. The charges are against 21-year-old Devin Shupe.
According to police reports, the charges stem from an incident between August 21 and September 1. On that date a juvenile went missing in Effingham County, and was later reported as a runaway. The juvenile was believed to be with Shupe, but their whereabouts were unknown.
On September 1, through a combined effort by the Effingham and Jasper County Sheriff’s Offices, and the Newton Police Department the juvenile was recovered at a Newton residence. Shupe was located with the juvenile and was brought into custody for crimes associated with helping the juvenile to runaway and for alleged inappropriate contact with the juvenile.
Shupe is being held on $250,000 bond. The charges, if found guilty, carry sentencing ranges from three to fifteen years in prison.
