Congressman John Shimkus of the local 15th Congressional District will be spending much of his Friday in Effingham. Congressman Shimkus will first receive a tour of the Effingham County Courthouse Museum. Shimkus was invited by museum officials to see the improvements made since his last visit. Shimkus will then speak at the Effingham First Friday Luncheon at the Keller Convention Center. He will also be receiving the Spirit of Free Enterprise Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Congressman will then attend the annual Veterans Advisory Committee Meeting. Shimkus will host the meeting, which gives veterans an opportunity to provide perspectives on issues affecting former military men and women. Marion VA Medical Center Director Donald Hutson will be a special guest at the meeting.
Congressman Shimkus will also be holding open office hours at the Newton City Hall from 9:30am to 11:00am.
