The City of Effingham has announced that Mid America Motorworks has won the City of Effingham’s Business Appreciation Award. This was the fourth business appreciation award given out by the City.
“For over 40 years Mike Yager and the team at Mid America Motorworks have been bringing people to Effingham to pursue their automotive passions and hobbies,” said Effingham Mayor Jeff Bloemker. “Additionally, generations of local families have been supported by the Mid America payroll. Mid America Motorworks is a great business for Effingham and a great example of the American Dream in action,” he continued.
Mid America Motorworks was nominated by an employee, Jennifer Hinterscher. She stated, “Mike Yager has been recognized within the Corvette hobby as a pioneer and leader. With Mike’s leadership and contagious enthusiasm, Mid America Motorworks has grown to encompass every aspect of the automotive hobby. Mike, Mid America Motorworks, and the Funfest events have aided in bringing world-wide recognition to Effingham. We should be proud to name Mid America Motorworks among our local businesses.”
Mid America Motorworks has raised money for Catholic Charities and the TREC Trail, as well as the Richard E. Workman Sports & Wellness Complex last year. This year the charity event will benefit Fear Nothing, a local non-profit group that raises money to support cancer patients and research. Another way that Mid America Motorworks gives back to the community is by donating the use of their grounds for local cross country meets. St. Anthony Junior High and High School cross country events are hosted on the company’s 190-acre campus. They even volunteer their time to sell concessions and assist with results during larger meets.
Mid America Motorworks is a long standing business in the Effingham community. Mike Yager started the company over 40 years ago. Mike began the direct mail company on the road traveling to car shows and, as the business grew, made the conscious decision to remain located in Effingham. Over the years, Mid America Motorworks has become a pillar within the Effingham community, providing year-round employment in sales, marketing, warehouse, manufacturing, and retail.
Mid America Motorworks hosts two large festivals every year, Funfest for Air-Cooled VWs and Corvette Funfest. This year’s Corvette Funfest will take place September 17-20. This event welcomes thousands of Corvettes and enthusiasts. Some of the highlighted events for this year are the Downtown Welcome Fest, Charity Event for Fear Nothing, David Marks and the Surf City Allstars, and a Thickburger Eating Contest.
