At the beginning of August the Effingham County Health Department reduced its operating hours to four days a week, being open Monday through Thursday. This was a result of the state’s lack of a budget, which has left the health departmen without the federal funding they expected to receive. Health Department employees are currently receiving unpaid days off on Fridays. At this time though, on the days the department is open, there are not any reductions in service. It was initially anticipated that there would have to be a reduction in services if a budget still weren’t passed in November. However, the Department has since received some federal funding. This should allow the health department to operate on its reduced schedule without reducing services until the new year.
