The Effingham resident facing felony DUI charges from a fatal accident earlier this month in Macon County has pleaded not guilty.
The accident occurred on August 6 when vehicles driven by 32-year-old Effingham resident Richard Rodgers Jr. and 34-year-old Shelbyville resident Justin Baker collided head-on. Baker was killed in the accident, while Rodgers was transported to a Decatur hospital. A four-year-old was also injured in the accident.
Police arrested Rodgers a few days after the accident upon his release from the hospital. His charges are aggravated driving under the influence involving a fatality, aggravated DUI on drugs, and other traffic violations.
Rodgers will be back in court for a pretrial hearing on October 19th.
