The C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corporation Head Start 0-5 Program recently received a donation of school supplies from Lakeview College of Nursing students. As a project for the Community Health class, nursing students Allison Windell, Tara Biggs, Jonda Donaldson, Whitney Donaldson, Brittany Simcox and Heather Dalton raised money and purchased school supplies for the C.E.F.S. Head Start 0-5 Program. The donated supplies will be used by the Head Start Program in the upcoming school year.
C.E.F.S. Chief Operations Officer Kevin Bushur stated, “We are grateful for the generous donation in support of the Head Start 0-5 Program.” COO Bushur continued, “The donated school supplies will assist our agency as it continues to provide essential Head Start Program services which impact hundreds of preschool children in our service area.”
The C.E.F.S. Head Start 0-5 Program is a federally funded program that offers center-based services to 440 preschool children and home-based services to 102 pregnant women, infants and toddlers in the seven counties in C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corporation’s service area. Eligibility is largely income-based, although other eligibility criteria such as disabilities and services needed by the family are also used to determine acceptance into the program. The Head Start 0-5 Program provides comprehensive early childhood education, health and developmental screenings, parent involvement opportunities and family socializations. Head Start promotes school preparation by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of education, health, nutritional, social and other services. The program’s services and resources are designed to foster stable family relationships, enhance children’s physical and emotional well- being and establish an environment to develop strong cognitive skills. The Head Start philosophy is to provide all children with individualized care and guidance in reaching their potential. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
