The Effingham County Tax and Finance Committee heard from Delaine Donaldson of the Effingham County Cultural Center and Museum Association at Thursday’s meeting. Delaine Donaldson spoke to the committee, requesting that the County extend an agreement to pay for the museum’s utility bills. The County first agreed to cover the museum’s utility costs five years ago, but that original agreement has expired. With the request for an extension, Donaldson updated the committee on the museum’s activity and progress in expansion. He also spoke on the importance of the museum, which he said brings economic and educational value to the area.
The County expressed support for the museum, but concerns about committing financially with the current uncertainty at the state level were raised.
Also at Thursday’s meeting, the committee decided to continue the discussion about a phone system upgrade, and the purchase of new software for the county clerk and treasurer until next month’s meeting.
