The Effingham Plan Commission has approved the recommendation of an amendment to the City’s municipal code to allow for the potential development of an indoor shooting range. The recommended amendment would specifically allow for a range to be operated within City limits in an M-1 Light Industrial District. The district was selected because it is on the outskirts of the city, rather than in a highly populated area.
The amendment allows for a shooting range if the location is fully enclosed or part of a fully enclosed facility that has been specifically designed for sporting events, practice, instruction, testing, or training. The amendment does not relate to military training facilities or government operated shooting ranges.
The City Council will still need to approve the amendment.
