Two vehicles collided on Interstate 57 in Effingham County Wednesday morning. The accident occurred in a construction zone at 8:07am.
State Police say a vehicle driven by 45-year-old Keith Lopo of Black River, Michigan was traveling southbound on I-57 in a semi near mile post 162 when a vehicle driven by 75-year-old Stephen Campion of Mohave Valley, Arizona struck his vehicle in the side while trying to merge. Campion stated that he thought he had enough clearance to switch lanes.
Lopo was transferred by ambulance to St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital with injuries. Campion was ticketed for failure to yield while merging.
