The second annual 9/11 Honor Stair Climb will be held on September 11 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham. The climb, which is a National Fallen Firefighters Foundation event, hopes to have 75 participants this year.
The climb is to honor the 343 firefighters who lost their lives responding to the attack on the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. The event is open to the public, who will be climbing the stairs along side members of local fire departments and other emergency responders. Participants will make the climb from the ground floor of the hospital to the sixth floor and back down 18 times to represent the 110 floors at the twin tower buildings.
The registration is $35. Along with the climb, that will include an event t-shirt, a group photo, and other giveaways. All money raised by the climb will go to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
Check-in for the climb will begin at 9:00am, with the group photo at 9:45am. A moment of silence and a prayer/bell ceremony will occur at 9:59am. The climb will then last from 10:30am-1:00pm.
