C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corporation, Board of Directors will be holding their 50th annual board meeting in Effingham on August 6, 2015 at 6:00pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Effingham to show case their accomplishments in helping people and changing lives.
The C.E.F.S. Board of Directors will be recognized for volunteering their time to guide and direct the agency. The 2015 family of distinction, Serena Spencer of Sullivan, will be recognized and share her personal story of personal growth and achievement towards achieving economic security.
Jim Schultz of Effingham serving as the Director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity will share his thoughts and ideas on the role of the Department in achieving economic excellence and job growth in Illinois.
C.E.F.S. will recognize twenty (20) individuals and families that have overcome personal obstacles in achieving self-sufficiency. The agency will recognize seven (7) individuals, organizations, community partners and businesses that provided outstanding community service to the agency during the past year. The agency will honor six (6) outstanding volunteers for providing excellent volunteerism, civic engagement and community service to the agency.
C.E.F.S. will award $8,000.00 in educational scholarships to three (3) individuals pursuing post-secondary education degrees. The educational scholarship funding is provided by the Community Services Block Grant Program from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
