A local fire fighter saved a woman from an attack at a rest area off the interstate.
Effingham Fire Fighter Jamie Lidster was traveling home from Chicago Sunday when he stopped near Rantoul.
As Lidster exited his vehicle to go inside he heard screams coming from a vehicle nearby, in which a man was striking a woman in the face with his fist. The woman and the kids in the vehicle were able to exit, and ran towards the building calling for help. The man then exited the car and gave chase, punching the woman to the ground and continuing to strike her in the face and the back of the head.
Lidster then intervened, explaining that he feared for the woman’s life. He was able to wrestle the man to the ground and keep him pinned until police arrived. The man was then arrested. The woman and kids were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
