The Effingham County Health Department is encouraging residents to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites. The health department says that outdoor activities, especially around the Fourth of July, put people at an increased risk for bites.
In a release from the Health Department, they say that firework displays begin as the sun goes down, which is prime time for mosquito bites. Applying mosquito repellent before attending these displays will greatly reduce the chance of contracting West Nile Virus.
All age groups should protect themselves from mosquito bites, but those over the age of 50 are at more of a risk.
