The Teutopolis Unit 50 School Board has approved the proposed amended budget for the 2014-2015 school year and the fiscal year that is ending in two weeks. This amendment reflects expenditures that were not anticipated when the budget was passed prior to the school year. The District had initially anticipated an end of year deficit of $48,000. The actual end of year deficit was $113,662. It was noted at the meeting that while this deficit is more than anticipated, it is still much improved compared to recent years.
The Board was also updated on the progress of the District’s Techtopolis technology plan to bring chrome books to the classroom. The Board then approved the use of donated funds to purchase additional equipment for the program.
The Board also discussed kindergarten class sizes. The District first had three classes with approximately 27 students in each class. The Board though discussed plans to add a fourth unit, and will likely soon start the hiring process for the additional class.
