The Effingham County Board’s monthly meeting was held Monday.
The Board approved sending a letter of support to the State for an extension of the Dieterich TIF District. Dieterich’s TIF district is set to expire, and the state soon be reissuing district designations. The district helps to increase economic development, as it allows additional sales taxes to be retained. If the TIF District is reinstated, it would be active until 2032.
In other action, the Board passed a resolution approving the County’s use of the State’s prevailing wage. This is an item that County’s are required by the state to pass, and it sets the pay scale for public works. If a county doesn’t pass they prevailing wage their state issued tax dollars can be withheld.
The Board also approved the $1000 contribution to Good Neighbors of Lake Sara for the July 3rd fireworks show on the lake.
The Board held off on taking action a request for financial support for the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center. The County supports the plan to assist the detention center, but the Board wants to first ensure that the funds aren’t available from another source. Over the last 4 years 8 youth from Effingham County have received treatment for substance issues at the center at no cost to the county.
