State Police Troopers from the local District 12 participated in the 2015 Law Enforcement Torch Run Wednesday. The run began just after 8:00am in downtown Effingham, with their route going through Neoga and concluding in Mattoon.
The torch run is an annual relay fund-raiser conducted by police officers across the state to benefit the Special Olympics.
In 2014, District 12 in Effingham raised $7,700 for the Special Olympics. Approximately 3,000 officers will carry the FLAME OF HOPE nearly 1,500 miles, running through Illinois communities via 23 different legs to its final destination at the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games on June 12th in Normal, Illinois.
