The Illinois State Police in District 12 are inviting the community to attend the kickoff event for the 2015 Law Enforcement Torch Run on Wednesday, June 10th at the old Courthouse in downtown Effingham. Attendees are encouraged to line the street from the courthouse to the post office in Effingham in support of the Special Olympians, who will join in the first portion of this 16 mile leg at 8:00am.
Law Enforcement Torch Run events continue to grow as the single largest fund-raiser for the Illinois Special Olympics. In 2014, District 12 in Effingham raised $7,700 for the Special Olympics. The torch run is an annual relay fund-raiser conducted by police officers representing every branch of law enforcement across the state. Approximately 3,000 officers will carry the FLAME OF HOPE nearly 1,500 miles, running through Illinois communities via 23 different legs to its final destination at the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games on June 12th in Normal, Illinois.
