A bill sponsored by State Representative John Cavaletto of the local 107th District is on its way to the Governor’s desk for signing. If Governor Rauner signs the bill, it will authorizes the transfer of the Centralia Animal Disease Laboratory to Kaskaskia College. The laboratory would be used for educational purposes.
The Centralia Animal Disease Laboratory was closed in 2012 by the Quinn administration. The conveyance of this property would transfer ownership to Kaskaskia College to ensure that the property no longer sits vacant and can be used for educational purposes by the college.
To make the transfer official, Kaskaskia had to pay one dollar. If the building ceases to be used for educational purposes, the property will go back to the state.
