A press conference will be held next week to announce plans for the development of the Effingham Regional Career Academy, which will be built on the Lake Land College Kluthe Center campus in Effingham. The press conference will be on Tuesday, June 9 at 11:30am at the Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education Office.
Speakers at the press conference will be Lake Land College President Dr. Josh Bullock, Versatech President and Effingham County Chamber of Commerce Board Chairman Joe Forbes, Altamont Unit 10 Superintendent Jeff Fritchnitch, and Effingham Unit 40 Superintendent Mark Doan.
Lake Land College, local schools, the chamber of commerce, and area businesses and organizations are working teach skills and the knowledge needed for the job market. The goal is for the academy to help attract, retain, and grow area businesses by providing sustainable career pathways for high school students and incumbent adult workers. The plan includes work study, job shadowing, and apprenticeships. Curriculum will be offered in a typical semester fashion, but will also extend to workshops, seminars, boot camp, and certification-based initiatives.
