The Effingham County Health Committee met Wednesday, with the County Tobacco Prevention Coalition being the main item of discussion. The committee discussed the call stats for the tobacco quitline. The hotline had 40 callers making 106 calls during the third quarter. Because of cuts made by Governor Rauner the hotline was not in service from April 10 through May 6, but has since been reactivated.
The Committee also learned that the 32 inspections done at local food establishments during April and May returned zero violations of the Smoke Free Illinois Act.
The Health Committee also expressed concern that there are misconceptions about the safety of Electronic Cigarettes. There are plans to look into options about raising awareness for this issue through educational efforts.
